Delicious

Delicious was an interesting place to visit. I shared the site with my co-workers and they liked the idea of having a place to put your favorites from anywhere but like myself they like being able to use others bookmarks like those that belong to groups.

Some of the tags that I think would work on the Nebraska Library Commissions Website would be: Learning, Research and Info.

I feel that it would be a great idea to make bookmarks that a group could use for a book discussion and then teach the group how to use it.

Twitter

Well this Twitter was quite interesting. I read about other people working on 2.0. I followed another librarian from Nebraska and his days. It was amazing how close you feel to the writers when you read about their day to day happenings. I am sure their would be so advantages to using it at the library. Alot of our patron would love to read about the day to day happenings at the library and share their lives with us also. I did like micro blogging and seems like you could keep in touch with just a few short words.

Library thing

I think this will be great to review new books and also by putting it on your website, people can have book discussions and get suggestions on other good reading material. I really enjoyed looking at what others have added. I also liked reading about featured authors. http://www.librarything.com/profile/mprohaska

TECH TALK

I like the new iPod Touch a lot, my son has the 32gb and he is always showing me new stuff on his iPod Touch. There are many different apps and games to play around with on it. You can also access the internet and YouTube. He has the new 2nd Gen. that just came out not too long ago, the differences between 1st and 2nd Gen. are a built in speaker a new sleeker design also there are a few software updates. iPod Touch comes in a 8gb, 16gb and 32gb and has a 3.5 inch touchscreen. I also read in one of my computer magazines that this was the best mp3 player of the year.

GENERATORS

This was amazing, there are meny different generators to work with, This is definitely my favorite one. http://www.dumpr.net/

Flickr Fun!

This is so much fun, I always wondered how those pictures got so messed up - the tool I enjoyed the most was call "Dumpr" There were many different fun apps to add and manipulate photos and have fun while doing it. One of the ones I especially enjoyed was amazing goo, I will have to send my college children some of the pictures. They will be amazed.

This was a lot of fun and a tool I will definitely use in the future. http://www.flickr.com/photos/34803983@N06/3232256067/

Discovery exercise #7

Hey this is Great, I can do lots of exploring all over the web with this handy RSS search tool. I really enjoyed the bloglines search and couldn't seem to really get into any others. I will continue my search and keep you updated.
Now I can honestly say that I know what RSS is. What a GREAT idea; I always wondered how some people could read so many different websites and still have time to work. Now I know!!
I will use this to my advantage to keep on top of the news around the world when I have no time to read a newspaper or watch TV.

We could teach classes at the library and show people how to simply the life by using RSS. Well another one bites the dust. I am really enjoying all this learning. I looking forward to the next step.

IM and its advantages

Wow, setting up the IM was really challenging. I waiting for a response and will probably find out tomorrow if it works.
IM use @ the library would work great for those people that work on their computers all day at work - they will be able to ask the library questions as they pop into their mind rather then waiting to call and then never finding the time. A big disadvantage would be if only one person was using it, people would get upset if no one was online to respond immediately.

I think that I would really enjoy using it to keep in touch with my children in college and my relatives that would like to keep in touch with but really don't have enough to say to have a conversation.

If I was a patron I would definitely use IM to ask reference questions because of the amount of time I spend on a computer is a lot more then I care to be on the phone. IM would be very fast and simple.

Well, I have a lot more to do so I must move on. Hope you all have a great night.

Well, I can't believe that I am finally going to learn 2.0. My goal is to do it in two weeks by the January 31st deadline. Please wish me the best; I know I will give it my best shot. I would have started sooner but I have been working on videos for my parents 50th wedding anniversary and my nephews wedding. My productions were sensational and now I have to get back to real life and quit reminiscing about years past. I went through over 10,000 photos and 50 hours of videos. I even had my dad's 8mm films transfered to DVD's. My dad cried when he say them; he thought the films had been lost, he had not seen them in over 40 years. I was greatly rewarded when all of my brothers and siter were all watching with our 32 children around grandpa and grandma and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. My son Brady put the music on and it was amazing with songs like, "You Should Have Seen it in Color".

The hardest habit for me will be to view every problem as a challenge; One of my biggest challenges is confrontations with anyone. If I can overcome this bad habit my life will be changed forever.

The easiest habit for me is to use technology to my advantage; I love all the new technologies. I have a 17 yr. old son and he helps me keep up on top of the latest and greatest technologies. I want to learn all I can about technology so here I go; I'm going to give it my all!!
